DIRECT: Volumes rise by 9% as advertisers select direct mail
Marketing, Thursday, 22 August 2002, 12:00am,
Direct mail is continuing to outperform other marketing media with latest figures showing an 8.8% rise in mailing volumes over the same period last year.
Research by the Direct Mail Information Service during the three months from April to June 2002 shows that the number of DM items sent by advertisers had risen to 1.36 billion, while expenditure was up almost 10% to £527m.
The statistics underline the sterling performance of DM at a time when overall advertising revenue is stuttering and media such as TV are stuck in the doldrums.
The period also marks the first time since the first quarter of 1999 that consumer direct mail has shown stronger growth than direct mail aimed at businesses.
