DIARY: Met Police PROs land Group 4 Excellence gong
Edited by CHRIS SCOTT, PR Week UK, Friday, 30 November 2001, 12:00pm,
As suppressions of protests go, the Metropolitan Police proved
themselves once again the nation's finest with their sterling efforts
hemming in anti-capitalists during this year's May Day protests.
Now the Met's press and publicity team has been recognised for its work
in 'supporting the operational strategy throughout the proceedings,
which allowed the team to manage the media in a positive light, despite
the difficult circumstances'.
This glowing praise came as the Met's PROs scooped the Group 4 Award for
Excellence.
The Met's deputy director of public affairs Chris Webb picked up the
gong at the annual Association of Police Public Relations Officers
awards, as well as a cheque for £1,500 which will go to the
development of the force's press office.
Presumably sponsor Group 4, which achieved infamy following a series of
prisoner escapes, was not in charge of ensuring the prize's safe passage
from the venue.
