INTERNATONAL: Sun Microsystems corp comms V-P search underway

JULIA HOOD, PR Week UK, Friday, 31 August 2001, 12:00pm,

PALO ALTO, CA: Sun Microsystems is believed to be searching for a

vice-president of corporate communications, according to a US headhunter

document obtained by PRWeek's US sister title.

The position is described in a leaked Egon Zehnder International

document as: 'Reporting directly to the senior vice-president and chief

marketing officer, this position will head the central corporate

communications group and will be responsible for the full range of

external communications...' and 'managing the relationship with outside

PR firms'.

Sun's PR relationships have been through several upheavals recently.

In February, Sun dropped Burson-Marsteller in favour of Eastwick

Communications, Fleishman-Hillard-owned KVO, Alexander Ogilvy and

Citigate Cunningham.

Eastwick and KVO have since been dropped after a review earlier this

month.

Sun senior director of corporate comms Jeremy Barnish said that Sun does

not comment on speculation.
