17 August: Manchester Pride. A ten-day festival celebrating Greater Manchester's LGBT community, sponsored by easyJet.
18 August: V Festival Chelmsford, Essex/Weston Park, Staffordshire. The opening day of the music festival sponsored by Virgin Media sees The Stone Roses headlining Chelmsford while The Killers top the bill at Weston Park.
19 August: O2 London Mela West London. A free celebration of South Asian culture, expected to attract more than 90,000 visitors.
20 August: Keith Lemon: The Film UK premiere London. Premiere of the feature-length comedy film based on the exploits of Leigh Francis' comic alter-ego and Celebrity Juice presenter Keith Lemon as he attempts to make it big in the capital.
21 August: Glencore International interim results. The $90bn merger between Xstrata and Glencore was announced in February and is expected to become effective by 31 October.
22 August: Forbes' most powerful women in the world list published. Annual list of the most powerful women in the world, including businesswomen, celebrities and royalty. German Chancellor Angela Merkel headed the list in 2011.
23 August: GCSE results published. GCSE, Foundation and Higher Diploma results for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
