Hit or Miss? Prince Harry visits the Caribbean and South America

As well as playing rugby in Rio, polo in Brazil and racing Usain Bolt, he proved a hit with Jamaican PM and anti-monarchist Portia Simpson Miller. He cancelled some engagements as a mark of respect for six servicemen killed in Afghanistan. His tour ended on Monday with the prince saying he was 'choked up and humbled'.

Prince Harry confounded most of his critics and removed the party-boy image (or at least turned it to his advantage) with his well-played debut overseas tour. OK, the relaxed Caribbean and energetic Brazil were a good fit, but they weren't without their political challenges - such as meeting the vocal republican PM of Jamaica.

It was Harry's natural and relaxed style that connected locally and through the global media lens, reminding us of his mother's strengths and her media savvy. True, he could have been more statesman-like, but we Brits have hordes of politicians for that and they would have never achieved the same global PR success.

The PR team advising the young royals are getting the style and tone right to create an image of a more approachable and down-to-earth, modern House of Windsor.
