Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Labour MP Jon Cryer is to propose a bill focused on commercial lobbying agencies.
Cryer has been allocated time to launch a Ten Minute Rule Bill in the Commons on 6 December. Cryer will propose 'a Bill to establish a public register of organisations that carry out lobbying of Parliament for commercial gain; to make provision for disclosure of expenditure by such organisations; and for connected purposes'.
KPMG public affairs partner Neil Sherlock has been appointed by Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg as his director of external affairs. Sherlock is being appointed as a special adviser, based in the Cabinet Office.
Baymor Solutions, the Cardiff-based public affairs consultancy, has resigned from the Association of Professional Political Consultants. As PRWeek went to press the Baymor website was no longer live and no-one could be reached for comment.
PPS Group has concluded three years' work managing the consultation process for EDF Energy on Hinkley Point C, the first new nuclear power station planned in the UK for more than 20 years. The process incorporated 34 public exhibitions, 67 local meetings and more than 100,000 visitors to a dedicated website. The Infrastructure Planning Commission has now accepted EDF's submission.
