Flack: (Saving) on Expenses - The Restaurant at St Paul's Cathedral
PR Week UK, Friday, 18 November 2011, 12:00am,
Reviewer: Kate Warwick, director, PR Savvy
What is it good for?
It's in the arched crypt, so you can eat undisturbed by the outside world. It's not for those who need to be constantly connected, but is a great spot for a quiet lunch or afternoon tea. It feels like a secret location, and the short set menus are full of seasonal treats.
Signature dishes
The focus is on British food. In the autumn, there are some hearty dishes on the menu: braised pork neck with spiced lentils, pumpkin and chestnut ravioli or roast salmon. There is also an impressive cheese trolley.
Who's the boss?
Gavin Quinn is the head chef. He has a blog where he reports back on visits to suppliers, new dishes and the best seasonal ingredients to get your hands on.
Tips please
Currently, due to the protesters outside the cathedral, the entrance to the restaurant is via the main door, making it a great time to visit. If you have time, stroll through the cathedral (entrance is £14.50) and crypt.
What's the damage?
Fixed-price lunches are £21.50 for two courses or £25.95 for three. Afternoon tea starts at £9.95.
