Voluntary Sector: Media Trust wire returns
PR Week UK, Friday, 23 September 2011, 12:00am,
The Media Trust has reinstated its community newswire after receiving support from the Big Lottery Fund.
The free national news distribution service for charities, which runs in partnership with the Press Association, has been relaunched as part of a three-year, UK-wide project to help support citizen journalism.
The trust was forced to pull the service last year when budgets were slashed during the Comprehensive Spending Review.
Caroline Diehl, chief executive of Media Trust, said: 'Now, more than ever, charities and communities must engage with mainstream media to give voice to marginalised and disadvantaged people.'
The free-to-use newswire helps communities and citizen journalists get their news into the national and regional press by enabling them to submit stories and press releases online, which are then written up and distributed by Press Association journalists.
