It will be the third time that Graham-Dixon, who has also served as a judge on the Turner, BP National Portrait and British Animation Awards, has chaired the Marketing Design Awards.

The Marketing Design Awards reward design and brand marketing agencies, consultancies and practices, in-house teams and manufacturers that use design to keep brands leading-edge and top of consumers’ minds.

‘It is my great pleasure to be chairman of this year’s judging panel for the Marketing Design Awards,’ Graham-Dixon said. ‘There are extraordinary talents at work in UK design and the Marketing Design Awards celebrate those talents.’

Graham-Dixon served as chief art critic at the Independent before switching to the Sunday Telegraph and becoming a regular contributor on BBC2's Culture Show.

The writer and presenter of several acclaimed BBC television series, including Art That Shook the World, A History of British Art and The Art of Russia, Graham-Dixon has also authored several books, including Caravaggio - A life sacred and profane, and a History of British Art.

Marketing editor Noelle McElhatton said: ‘It’s a real coup to have Andrew Graham-Dixon as chair, given his huge profile in the arts and design worlds'.

The presentation to winners will take place at a lunchtime event on 1 November 2011 at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.
