The London Fire Brigade has revealed that during last week's riots, its Twitter followers grew by 3,000 in a 24-hour period, with live updates reaching 10,000 followers. The brigade's Facebook fans rose to more than 7,000.
Marketing Manchester and the Manchester Arndale Centre has set up an 'I Love MCR' Facebook page in the wake of the riots. About 3,500 people have signed up to the group. The two groups have launched the campaign to 'show the world that the people of Manchester are proud of their city and united against anti-social behaviour'.
The Met Police has announced that its director of public affairs Dick Fedorcio has been sent on a period of extended leave while the Independent Police Complaints Commission carries out its investigation into his association with ex-News of the World deputy editor Neil Wallis.
Coventry City Council press officers have been criticised by Tory group leader Kevin Foster, who has said that many requests for information about councillors' activities are now being denied. A spokesman at Coventry City Council's press office responded: 'Occasionally, we ask an officer supplying the information to clarify a response, if we think the question hasn't been answered clearly or comprehensively enough.'
