Kantar Media Intelligence has revealed that the top five areas being talked about in the print media are welfare cuts, higher education funding, public sector job cuts, housing and defence.

However, online and social media chatter has focused on banks, higher education funding, police, BBC and museums/art.

‘The spending review is the biggest media story of the year, but our research suggests the media are not always reporting on the areas which are most important to the general public,’ said a Kantar spokesman.

The targets that generated the least debate were the Film Council closing down, Civil List changes and the Severn Barrage being cancelled.
