UBS hires new comms chief; Merlin wins two advisory jobs.
UBS has appointed Goldman Sachs' Paul Kafka as global head of marketing communications. He will assume his London-based role in October. He joined Goldman as EMEA head of corporate comms in 2007 and has held the top comms roles at the London Stock Exchange, Fidelity and Nomura.
Merlin has been appointed to advise Fulcrum Utility Services on its acquisition from National Grid, listing on AIM and ongoing financial and business communications. Marwyn Capital I Limited, a shell company backed by fund manager Marwyn, launched on AIM in December 2009 to purchase the company from National Grid. Additionally, Merlin has been appointed to advise Allied Gold, the Pacific Rim gold production and exploration company, on its financial and business comms out of London.
M: Communications' Gulf office has picked up accounts with energy company Peregrine Holdings and pharma firm Banaja Holdings. Peregrine, headquartered in the Dubai International Financial Centre, focuses on liquefied natural gas and related exploration and production. Banaja is Saudi Arabia's largest pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical logistics holding company.
Brunswick was the leading PR adviser by value and FD advised on the highest number of deals during the first half of 2010, according to mergermarket data. Total European M&A increased during the period by 24.1 per cent to $240bn compared to the same period in 2009.
Western Gulf Advisory, a Bahrain-based investment firm, has called in Citigate Dewe Rogerson as corporate PR adviser for the UK to boost awareness of the brand.
