World Cup boost for SA
PR Week UK, Friday, 09 July 2010, 12:00am,
The World Cup has improved public perception of the safety of South Africa as a tourist destination, research for PRWeek has revealed.
Before the tournament, PRWeek and OnePoll asked 3,000 members of the public how safe they thought the country was. The majority - 56 per cent - said it was not safe and 41 per cent said it was quite safe.
But a survey carried out as the World Cup draws to a close has found that 56 per cent now think South Africa is quite safe, and 41 per cent consider it unsafe.
Rachel Froggatt, director of sport at Braben, said: 'The real test will be tourism numbers over the next 12 months.'
