LONDON - The national papers come out in force backing the Conservative party on election day, with only the Daily Mirror asking if David Cameron is qualified for the job.

The Daily Telegraph calls today a 'day of destiny' and relays Cameron's final message to voters while the Daily Express calls  it 'D-Day' and tells readers 'David Cameron is our only hope' in the 'most important election for decades'.

The Independent calls this 'the people's election' while The Times declares 'the fate of the nation' and tells readers they have a 'momentous' decision to make.

Meanwhile, The Guardian prepares for a Tory election win, claiming 'Guardian/ICM poll shows 8-point lead over Labour'.

The Sun 'Obama-fies' Cameron and calls him 'our only hope' alongside a leader that declares 'in Cameron we trust'.

The Mirror sticks to its guns, making a final stand for Labour and picturing David Cameron aside the headline prime minister? Really?' with a mock CV that show no 'real-life experience'.

The Daily Star offers some humour on election day with a side bar showing caricatures of all the party leaders with the headline 'time to give 'em a kick in the ballots'.

Election specials are scattered across the papers, with a free 12-page election pullout in The Guardian and The Daily Mirror highlighting its coverage.
