Colin Thompson, director of the PRCA for the last ten years, is to step
down from the post at the end of June.
Thompson, 67, is leaving to manage his own financial consulting firm,
CGT Consulting, but will continue to work as a part-time financial
controller for the association over the next two years.
‘I want to spend time doing more interesting things and not just
detailed administrative work,’ he said.
‘When you work in a small office you get involved in a lot of backroom
duties and I feel that it is time to hand over that workload to another
pair of hands.’
A chartered accountant rather than a public relations professional by
training, Thompson helped to set up the PRCA’s computerised referral
system in 1990. He is also responsible for co-ordinating the PRCA
committees, administering its finances and producing the yearbook.
‘What I’ve always appreciated with Colin is that he has provided very
wise counsel to individuals and his discretion is absolute,’ said PRCA
chairman-elect Jackie Elliot. ‘And that is greatly to his credit in an
industry that can gossip about itself endlessly.’
The search for Thompson’s replacement is being led by management
headhunting firm John Brill Consulting which is headed by former GCI
chairman and chief executive John Brill.
