Lib Dems enlist blogger support
Climate change: Lib Dem attack
Henry Williams and Clare O'Connor 13-Jun-08
The Liberal Democrats' environmental spokesman has enlisted a group of bloggers for an unprecedented grassroots environmental campaign.
Steve Webb has launched the web initiative as part of a bid to increase the government's target for CO2 reductions by 2050.
Webb has also launched an interactive website at canvassyourmp.com, encouraging web-savvy constituents to contact their MPs in the hope of amending the climate change bill.
As part of the campaign, Webb has assembled several writers from blogs such as treehugger.com and greenguysglobal.com.
Also on board is Mark Hanson, a PR consultant at Staniforth and contributor to the LabourHome blog, known for using cutting edge web tools for political campaigns.
The climate change bill currently has a target for a 60 percent decrease in carbon emissions by 2050. Webb hopes to orchestrate a cut of 80 percent as it goes through its second reading in Parliament.
