Guto Harri leaves F-H for 'team Boris'

The former BBC journalist Guto Harri has been confirmed as Boris Johnson's new director of comms.

Harri resigned from his role at Fleishman-Hillard yesterday after only a month in the agency's public affairs division. He will start on Monday at the new mayor's office, where he will lead Johnson's comms team, currently overseen by interim media officer Ed Staite .

Harri yesterday confirmed that he had originally been considered for Andy Coulson's job, telling Tory diarist Iain Dale that 'conversations were had' with David Cameron. The talks were first revealed in PRWeek last year.

Harri's brief time at Fleishman-Hillard saw him advising Zimbabwean presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai, communicating the MDC leader's messages to African and international media. The former Six O'Clock News anchor joked: 'If I can handle Zimbabwean politics I should be able to handle Boris Johnson!'
