McCartneys and Lee head PRWeek Awards winners
The McCartney sisters from Belfast were named Communicators of the Year at the 2005 PRWeek Awards ceremony on Tuesday night (18 October), while Mike Lee, the communicator behind London’s successful Olympic bid, was PR Professional of the Year. Resolute Communications walked away with Agency of the Year.
The McCartney sisters launched an unprecedented campaign for justice against the IRA in January after their brother, Robert, was murdered outside a Belfast bar. Their eloquent fight began with local initiatives, but escalated to the US White House, effecting real political change.
'The sisters have shown fierce focus and remarkable endurance in their campaign for justice,' said PRWeek editor Daniel Rogers .
Catherine McCartney responded: 'We're an ordinary working class family with no influential connections, and no political machinery behind us. The only thing with which we are armed is the truth.'
Rail operator GNER secured Campaign of the Year for its East Coast rail franchise win.
