Flack: Flack's Week
PR Week UK, Friday, 24 June 2011, 12:00am,
Congrats to Burson-Marsteller, Exposure, PLMR and others who picked up gongs at this week's Cannes Lions festival.
But - two years after the festival opened its doors to the PR community - not all PROs are bowled over with enthusiasm. Peregrine CEO Anthony Payne suggests: 'In marketing land Cannes has some sort of position, but in PR land I don't think anyone's even heard of it.' Firefly boss Claire Walker says: 'I prefer to be in an environment like the PRWeek Awards, which is more balanced between the agency and in-house community.' Of course, Flack couldn't possibly comment ...
When a rumour on Twitter suggested teen heart-throbs One Direction were recording at Prospect Studios in Barnes, hordes of screaming teenage girls bombarded the place with phone calls, letters and visits. Sadly for the teen throngs, the address actually belongs to tech PR agency AxiCom. 'Some of our younger male members of staff are easy on the eye but this was not enough to satisfy the girls,' says AxiCom European CEO Julian Tanner ...
The top bods at Unity revealed their thrifty nature this week. Co-founders Nik Done and Gerry Hopkinson were in Clerkenwell when they spotted a skip with a couple of 'very hip Sixties blue chairs' poking out. The resourceful pair rescued them for the office. 'We love a bargain,' said Hopkinson. He declined to comment on whether his employees have been noticeably itchy since the acquisition was made.
