The in-house team has been communicating with the media about the hot weather which has prompted the first ‘heat health' warning of the summer. A met office spokesman said the team had been 'inundated' with calls from the media.
The press office proactively sent out a release last Thursday warning of the hot weather ahead, which was updated on Friday and Monday.It has provided spokespeople for Sky News, the BBC and ITN.
It has been working with the Department of Health to ensure that the messages being sent out are the same.
The Met Office has also used social media to interact with the public. 'We have tweeted out news releases and have uploaded a YouTube broadcast disucssing what Health Health Watch means,' said Met Office chief press officer David Britton.
Parts of England and Wales could see highs of 30°C and lows in some areas may not fall below 18 °C.
The NHS has also been handling media calls and has put guidance on its website.
The Daily Mirror has today ran with a double page spread on the weather with the headline ‘Red Hot Alert' while the Daily Mail used the headling ‘Heat Alert'.
The hottest day of the year so far was Thursday with Heathrow Airport recording a high of 28 °C, but that is expected to be beaten over the coming week.
