Edelman is to open a sports and sponsorship practice headed by a hire from its US offices.

Kate Gordon assumes the newly created role of UK head of sports and sponsorship, aiming to capitalise on growing sports industry opportunities and increased interest in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.

Gordon spent nearly eight years in Edelman’s New York sports practice. She reports to JCPR director Amanda Kiddle.

Earlier this year Edelman announced a strategic alliance with sport, brand and communications consultancy Vero Communactions to boost its credentials in the sector (PRWeek, 23 February).
