Venture capital firm CVC Capital Partners has replaced Lowe

Bell Financial with Ludgate Communications as its public

relations agency.

The company, which is one of the venture capital industry’s

largest players, appointed Ludgate last week following a trawl of

consultancies. Financial Dynamics, The Communication Group and

the incumbent were also approached.

Rona Young, CVC’s business development manager, said that Ludgate

had been briefed to raise the company’s profile with merchant

banks, executives of potential vendor firms and the managers of

companies considering a management buyout.

Ludgate was cleared to take on CVC after rival venture capitalist

Cinven - which until July 1996 owned 19 per cent of the agency -

switched its PR account from Ludgate to Merlin Financial

Communications.

CVC is the biggest venture capital firm in Europe in terms of the

number and size of deals struck. It manages a pounds 625 million

investment fund and owns stakes in several high profile

companies, including Hamley’s, Dollond and Aitchison and British

Aluminium.
