MTV has appointed Coalition PR to run a consumer and trade campaign

in the UK and Ireland, following a competitive pitch.

The agency won the account last week and is charged with raising the

profile of the channel’s programming and increasing viewer numbers.

Since the launch of MTV’s UK and Irish service in June last year, which

is currently received by 7.5 million households, PR has been handled

internally.

The service is one of five regions which comprise northern Europe (which

includes Scandinavia), southern Europe (which covers Italy), Europe

Central (which covers Germany, Switzerland and Austria) and MTV Europe

(which covers all other countries).

’The brief covers the music industry press, advertising trade press and

broadcast mediums, their task is to drive tuning for the channel and to

increase our trade profile’ said MTV UK and Ireland acting head of press

Alison Gordon.

The agency will aim for coverage of programmes, presenters, and work on

specific awards and roadshow projects.

MTV is received by 77 million homes across Europe. The company is owned

by the Viacom Group, which also owns several globally distributed cable

channels, including Nickleodeon, and video retailer Blockbuster

Video.

Coalition also handles PR for music retailer HMV UK and pop band the

Verve.
