Leafing through a recent Mail on Sunday, I came across this fetching

picture of Robert Mitchelmore, Citigate’s media director - in an ad

promoting mortgages for people who are down on their uppers.

The Kensington Mortgage Company, the ad promises, lends to people with

bad debts, in short ’the kind of everyday borrower the high street

lenders ignore’.

Thinking Mitchelmore might welcome a friendly word, I gave him a

call.

He assures me he is not one of the lender’s clients - indeed it is one

of his.

’We work for the company and I did it as a favour to the client. It

hasn’t been that advantageous though: I’ve had a fair bit of giggling

down the phone from people I know.’
