INTERNATIONAL: Riedmatten takes on top comms role at Europcar

PARIS: Eric de Riedmatten has been appointed to the new post of communications director for car rental chain Europcar, handling both French and pan-European PR.

PARIS: Eric de Riedmatten has been appointed to the new post of

communications director for car rental chain Europcar, handling both

French and pan-European PR.



He will oversee the communication function for Europcar and Europcar

Lease - the company’s leasing arm - in France as well as co-ordinating

Europcar International’s PR function in its major European markets.

These include the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium, where

Riedmatten will liaise with existing communications staff.



Riedmatten will report to the director generals of Europcar

International, Europcar France and Europcar Lease, respectively John Du

Monceau, Salvatore Serio and Pierre Gillet. He will oversee a

four-strong team in France, including Haude Beneteau who previously

headed Europcar’s communications effort and is in charge of press

relations.



Riedmatten said: ’My post demonstrates a will to recentre and reinforce

communications, to work more closely with our offices in other

countries. I will act as a middleman, mediating between the different

branches of Europcar.’



The company uses PR agencies on a project basis in most countries except

the UK, where it contracts out all its PR to Berkshire-based Jeremy

Snook PR.



Europcar belongs jointly to German car firm Volkswagen and French hotel

and travel group Accor. Last March, the rental chain bought British Car

Rental, strengthening its UK presence. A month previously, Europcar

announced a strategic alliance with US car rental company Dollar.
