Tara Television, the UK-based cable channel from Ireland, has

appointed Nelson Bostock Communications to handle its trade and consumer

communications.

Four agencies are believed to have pitched for the account, which is

thought to have a fee approaching six figures. Nelson Bostock has been

charged with supporting Tara’s drive to extend its coverage through

cable and satellite operators and emphasise the channel’s offering to

non-Irish audiences.

Currently available on cable in areas of London, Birmingham and

Scotland, Tara will be available nationally when digital TV launches

later in the year.

US TV group United International Holdings holds a majority stake in

Tara, with 20 per cent owned by Irish state broadcaster RTE, which

provides the programming.

Tara is the first Nelson Bostock win since the appointment of Sue Skeats

as associate director last month (PR Week, 5 May ). Skeats will head the

account.
