British Digital Broadcasting has appointed Jessica Mann as its head
of communications following the announcement of George Bridges’
Before becoming a freelance consultant two years ago Mann was head of
corporate communications for the management consultancy division of
Coopers and Lybrand. She spent six years at Coopers having previously
occupied a position as a board director at Biss Lancaster.
As a freelance consultant Mann offered communications advice to
financial services companies and public sector organisations such as the
Ministry of Defence. She said: ’Broadcasting is a new area for me but I
have experience across a broad number of areas including big corporate
environments and change management situations.’
Mann joins BDB at the beginning of August and reports to its commercial
director Anthony Sethill and chief executive Stephen Grabiner. BDB
retains Hill and Knowlton.
The broadcasting company is expected to bolster its communications team
with the appointment of three staff reporting to Mann to handle media
and consumer relations, public affairs and investor relations (PR Week,
BDB is a consortium formed between Granada and Carlton, which won the
licence to provide digital terrestrial TV services to the UK. It plans
to operate around 15 channels requiring neither satellite dish nor cable
link-ups. It will operate as a digital rival to BSkyB which plans to
offer 200 digital channels.
