British Digital Broadcasting has appointed Jessica Mann as its head

of communications following the announcement of George Bridges’

departure.

Before becoming a freelance consultant two years ago Mann was head of

corporate communications for the management consultancy division of

Coopers and Lybrand. She spent six years at Coopers having previously

occupied a position as a board director at Biss Lancaster.

As a freelance consultant Mann offered communications advice to

financial services companies and public sector organisations such as the

Ministry of Defence. She said: ’Broadcasting is a new area for me but I

have experience across a broad number of areas including big corporate

environments and change management situations.’

Mann joins BDB at the beginning of August and reports to its commercial

director Anthony Sethill and chief executive Stephen Grabiner. BDB

retains Hill and Knowlton.

The broadcasting company is expected to bolster its communications team

with the appointment of three staff reporting to Mann to handle media

and consumer relations, public affairs and investor relations (PR Week,

19 June).

BDB is a consortium formed between Granada and Carlton, which won the

licence to provide digital terrestrial TV services to the UK. It plans

to operate around 15 channels requiring neither satellite dish nor cable

link-ups. It will operate as a digital rival to BSkyB which plans to

offer 200 digital channels.
