South Yorkshire Police, the force at the centre of the ongoing

dispute over the allocation of blame for the Hillsborough tragedy, is

seeking a head of press and public relations.

The vacancy has arisen because the current head of press and PR, Linda

Scott, is leaving. Scott has found other employment but is still

negotiating her new appointment and could not say where she was

going.

Based at South Yorkshire Police’s headquarters in Sheffield, the head of

press takes responsibility for a six-strong department handling media

relations and internal communications.

Key tasks for the PR team are to raise public awareness of policing

standards and advising senior officers on how to present themselves in

public.

The press team are also expected to develop crisis management skills to

react to situations such as high profile murder cases.

The head of PR is responsible for communications tools such as the

force’s internet and staff intranet services.
