Car distribution and drinks bottling group Inchcape has promoted

Stephen Clark to the post of communications director for its

newly-formed motors company.

Clark is currently Inchcape’s corporate affairs director for the greater

China region. The announcement follows Inchcape’s decision to demerge

into three companies and the planned departure next year of its

corporate affairs director Paul Barber (PR Week, 13 March 1998).

Clark has spent the last 16 years in Asia. Before joining Inchcape six

years ago he managed Shandwick’s Hong Kong office, then called Gibson

PR, and was client services director for Hill and Knowlton in Asia. He

will head a four-strong corporate affairs department for the

London-based motor company which sells cars through a series of dealer

franchises with companies such as Toyota.

Inchcape’s marketing services business, which is also being demerged,

has appointed Wong Ai Kwei as its Singapore-based corporate affairs

director.

Ai Kwei is currently corporate affairs director for Inchcape in South

East Asia. The third company to be formed from the demerger, a

Chilean-based bottling operation, will announce its communications team

later this year.

As part of the restructuring Inchcape’s group employee communications

manager Sian Purslow and information officer Louise Clamp will be

leaving.

Inchcape’s Hong Kong team will also be broken up and its Japanese

corporate affairs manager is also leaving.
