Fishburn Hedges has picked up the public affairs account for Pearl

Assurance, with a brief to raise the company’s profile within

Government.

Fishburn Hedges’ public affairs arm, led by director Graham McMillan,

won the medium-sized account after a four-way pitch held two weeks

ago.

European Public Policy Advisers, Westminster Strategy and LSA were the

other agencies involved in the pitch.

Westminster Strategy and Fishburn Hedges have both worked for Pearl on

an ad-hoc basis for the past two years, providing policy monitoring and

public affairs support respectively. It is only now that Pearl, which

has 2.3 per cent of the general and life insurance market, has decided

to devote more resources to a full-time public affairs campaign. Ann

Rossiter, who will be one of two consultants running the account, said

Pearl has a ’good story to tell government’.

Pearl’s move comes as the Government steps up its own campaign to combat

financial exclusion - whereby consumers in lower income brackets miss

out on opportunities to save for pensions and future welfare.

The Government is keen to sound out the financial services industry on

how to encourage this audience to save for the future.

Rossiter said: ’Pearl has traditionally been serving that group for some

time. Over 66 per cent of its customers fall into the C2DE bracket.

We want to explain to the Government just how you can reach some of

these groups.’
