On-line video seller hires Rainier for first PR work

The UK’s biggest on-line retailer of videos, Black Star, has appointed Rainier as its first ever PR agency.

The UK’s biggest on-line retailer of videos, Black Star, has

appointed Rainier as its first ever PR agency.

Hi-tech specialist Rainier was formed last September when three

directors left Weber Group Europe to start the UK arm of US PR firm

Rainier Corporation.

The Black Star business, which is thought to have a budget in excess of

pounds 150,000, brings the agency’s total number of clients to 12.

Rainier pitched against five other agencies.

The appointment covers consumer, business-to-business and investor

relations.

Black Star, a UK company which was established two years ago, sells

videos over the internet at a substantial discount to high street

retailers.

The consumer campaign will be issues-based and designed to demonstrate

the strength of the UK’s on-line community, said director and founder

Steve Earl. ’The big US players look like they have the market sewn up;

we want to show the strength of the UK side.’

Predictably, the consumer campaign is also designed to drive sales and

will be aimed at everyone who watches videos at home and has an internet

connection.

The business-to-business facet will be aimed at other online operators

with a view to forming partnerships and alliances. The investor

relations element is a longer-term objective as the company is in

private hands and has no immediate plans to raise finance.
