Kirsty Macmaster, Edelman PR Worldwide’s European financial PR

head, left the agency this week saying that she had been given

insufficient backing in building the financial practice.

Macmaster was recruited to Edelman in November last year to build its

financial PR business across Europe.

She is understood to have requested an investment of pounds 300,000 from

Edelman to recruit the staff needed to generate business in London,

however CEO Richard Edelman is understood to have been reluctant to risk

the initial loss that such an investment would incur. PR Week was not

able to contact Edelman befor going to press.

Macmaster oversaw a team of 15 in London and 30 people on the Continent

whose remit includes financial PR. She reported to Carol Ruth, who is

based in New York and is chairman and CEO of the agency’s financial

business.

Edelman’s European financial income is believed to be around pounds 2

million a year. Macmaster was a founding partner of investor relations

consultancy Frew Macmaster, which advised clients including Guinness,

engineering firm GKN, Midlands Electricity and housebuilder Wimpey

Homes.

She joined the Mirror Group in September 1997 as its first corporate

communications director, but left in 1998 to work as a consultant before

joining Edelman.
