INTERNATIONAL: Cathay Pacific hires H&K in US

NEW YORK: Asian airline Cathay Pacific Airways has appointed Hill and Knowlton as its retained agency for the US, replacing two-year incumbent Ruder Finn.

NEW YORK: Asian airline Cathay Pacific Airways has appointed Hill

and Knowlton as its retained agency for the US, replacing two-year

incumbent Ruder Finn.

H&K pitched against Lou Hammond Associates, KWE and Courtney

Communications for the account, to handle consumer and crisis PR and

public affairs.

H&K will work on public affairs when, as is thought likely, the US

government begins to look into competition issues in the domestic

airline market.

US airlines are increasingly negotiating joint marketing for domestic

flights. Some airlines share air miles programmes, while others have

gone as far as selling seats on each others’ flights.

The agency will report to Cathay’s communications manager for the US and

Latin America, Gus Whitcomb.

Cathay’s worldwide PR is run by corporate communications manager Quince

Chong from Hong Kong.
