LONDON: US computer network provider Fore Systems has appointed MMD

to handle its PR across Central and Eastern Europe, the UK and Ireland a

new six-figure account.

Fore Systems previously used advertising and PR agency Smith and Jones

in the UK and Ireland, but has not employed PR agencies in Central and

Eastern Europe before.

Fore Systems is currently negotiating with MMD to extend its contract

into other countries in western Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Fore

Systems employs Herald Communications in France and HBI Helga Bailey in

Germany.

The account will be led out of MMD’s London, Prague and Budapest offices

and involves corporate media relations and product PR as the company

seeks to raise its brand awareness. It will cover all Central and

Eastern European countries, with a particular emphasis initially on

Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Fore Systems is based in Pittsburgh and its clients include Eurotunnel

and US telecom giant MCI Communications. Last July, the company reported

quarterly net profits up 189 per cent on the same period last year to

pounds 9 million. The firm bought California-based network provider

Berkeley Networks earlier this month.

- Visa International has hired MMD to handle its PR in the Czech

Republic and Slovakia, following a competitive pitch (PR Week, 18

September). Visa previously employed Donath Burson-Marsteller in the

Czech Republic and did not have an agency in Slovakia.
