Japanese investment bank Nomura International’s Principal Finance

Group, which specialises in acquiring companies, is seeking a public

affairs agency to ensure the smooth passage of its deals in the UK and

the rest of Europe.

The group invited eight agencies to present their credentials and has

reached a three-strong shortlist consisting of APCO, Bell Pottinger

Public Affairs and GJW.

Nomura Principal Finance has used Bell Pottinger Consultants for

strategic communications advice since early 1996. The group appointed

Financial Dynamics for City PR earlier this year and has used public

affairs agencies including Bell Pottinger Public Affairs on an ad hoc

basis for strategic political advice.

Stephen Jolly, Nomura International’s corporate communications director,

said: ’We will be appointing an agency on a permanent basis to advise us

on how we position our deals politically. We’re looking for people who

understand the legislative process outside the UK as well.’

Nomura Principal Finance has bought companies including Ministry of

Defence-owned property group Annington Homes, which it now leases to the

MoD.
