BSkyB has appointed Manchester-based Staniforth PR to promote its
bid for Manchester United Football Club among the club’s local
Staniforth, which was appointed without a pitch last week, will monitor
local media and provide press relations advice to BSkyB executives. A
BSkyB spokesman said: ’We recognise we have a job to do in convincing
Manchester people of the merit of this deal and are going out of our way
to ensure we communicate that it is good for the fans and the club.’
BSkyB announced its pounds 625 million bid for Manchester United in

The Office of Fair Trading will advise the Secretary of State for Trade
and Industry on whether the deal should be referred to the Monopolies
and Mergers Commission.
BSkyB’s move has fuelled press speculation about a bidding war for the
club. Among those mentioned as potential bidders are CNN and
Interpublic, which owns Weber PR Worldwide and Shandwick.
