Thistle Hotels lose Record to Savoy Group

The Savoy Group has poached Julia Record, PR director at rival

group Thistle Hotels, to be its group director of communications.

Record, who spent over four years at Thistle, replaces Wolfgang Winter

who was press and PR director. Winter has left the Savoy Group less than

two years after joining from hotel association Relais et Chateaux to set

up his own pub and restaurant venture.

Record joins Savoy Group next week and will head a five-strong

communications team at the luxury hotel chain which owns five London

hotels including the Savoy, Claridge’s, the Berkeley and the

Connaught.

Savoy Group also owns Simpson’s-in-the-Strand, the Savoy Theatre and

Worcestershire hotel the Lygon Arms. It was bought in April by US

investment group Blackstone from previous owners the Wontner family.

Savoy uses agencies overseas to raise its profile among potential

tourists.

These include Text und Aktion in Germany and Middleton and Gendron in

the US.

Record will oversee this agency activity but Savoy Group does not

currently use a retained agency in the UK. She will also be responsible

for internal communications for the group’s 1,900 staff.

At Thistle, Record oversaw a team of three and used financial PR firm

the Hogarth Partnership. Hogarth will assume a wider role following

Record’s departure as Thistle decides whether to appoint a direct

replacement for her.
