Hewlett-Packard UK has handed its pounds 500,000-plus consumer and

commercial media relations brief to Beattie Media, the Scottish-based

agency which entered the hi-tech PR arena with a new division last

month.

The contract was awarded after a three-way pitch against Lexis PR and

Harvard PR. Beattie replaces incumbent PA Consulting (PR Week, 16

April), which continues to provide PR support and communications

strategy for H-P’s marketing centre in Germany.

Jon Van Duyne, general manager for H-P’s UK consumer group, said: ’The

established agencies took a conservative approach to handling our

business ,whereas Beattie Media’s ideas were fresh and exciting.

Although a newcomer, Beattie Media has recruited people with substantial

sector experience.’

The H-P account will be headed by Amanda Groty, who joined Beattie Media

nine weeks ago to found its hi-tech division, from Firefly

Communications, where she was an account director.

Beattie Media will run a media relations campaign to raise the profile

of H-P’s brand and products to businesses and the general public. H-P

also uses Noiseworks PR in the UK for its business market.
