Citigate Westminster has won an account to handle public affairs

for Eurostar, the operating company for the cross-Channel train

service.

The agency’s brief covers UK and EU monitoring and strategic government

relations advice on issues including quarantine legislation, immigration

and asylum policy and Eurostar’s regional services to Belgium and

France.

Eurostar’s decision to appoint a public affairs agency follows the

company’s restructure earlier this year, whereby core functions

including communications were centralised within a new, London-based

unit, Eurostar Group.

These functions were previously handled across the UK, France and

Belgium by Eurostar UK and its partners, French rail company SNCF and

its Belgian equivalent, SNCB. Eurostar UK PR chief Debra Aspin was

promoted to head worldwide communications as part of the restructure (PR

Week, 9 April).

The account will be led by Citigate Westminster consultant Charles

Miller, whose agency, Public Policy Unit, was merged with Citigate in

April.

Miller also advises London and Continental Railways, which owns Eurostar

UK.
