Scottish-based aggregate and building materials group Alexander

Russell has appointed College Hill to handle its financial PR in the

wake of failed merger talks with the RMC Group.

In April, following a breakdown in talks with the RMC Group, Alexander

Russell announced that it had decided to remain an independent

company.

College Hill replaces Cardew, which oversaw PR for Alexander Russell

during the failed merger talks.

The contract was awarded after a three-way pitch which included Buchanan

Communications.

’The brief we have been given is to widen interest in Alexander

Russell’s stock and help ensure it is correctly valued,’ said College

Hill executive Michael Padley, who is heading the account.

College Hill will arrange various meetings for Alexander Russell with

analysts and fund managers, and handle media relations with the

financial press.

The contract will include introducing Alexander Russell to new financial

institutions in conjunction with broker Bell, Laurie and White.

In March, Alexander Russell posted a 54 per cent increase in 1998

pre-tax profits to pounds 4.3 million, on a turnover of pounds 44.9

million.

exploration company Emerald Energy. The brief is to attract support

through the financial press, brokers and institutions.
