The UK’s largest computer software and IT-services company EDS is
to restructure its PR agencies later this year. The company will look at
appointing local country agencies and may consider hiring a pan-European
The move comes at a time when EDS risks losing its position at the top
of the UK league of computing software and IT-services companies to
However, IBM may now be growing its IT-services business faster than EDS
due to an outsourcing agreement it signed with Cable and Wireless
Communications (CWC) last September. IBM will provide services such as
designing applications, maintenance and updating of systems to CWC.
In the last two weeks EDS has signed up three agencies on short term UK
and global contracts. Citigate Technology has been appointed with a
brief to raise EDS’s profile with financial services providers; Grant
Butler Coomber with a UK technology brief, and Edelman PR Worldwide on a
global corporate project.
Until April, EDS had retained Hill and Knowlton for its UK corporate and
technology PR for three years.
’At present we are hiring agencies working on specific short term
projects rather than retainers which gives us the flexibility to look at
realigning our agencies later in the year,’ said Gordon Moltry, EDS
communications director for EMEA.
Internal communications is being reorganised to create a regional
network rather than having separate structures from country to country.
