Diary: Former Shandwick man may be out of mind, but he’s not out of site

Some businesses get quite nasty about senior staff starting up rival companies, so it’s nice to see Shandwick being so grown-up over Chris Matthews, ex-chief executive of Shandwick Consultants.

Some businesses get quite nasty about senior staff starting up

rival companies, so it’s nice to see Shandwick being so grown-up over

Chris Matthews, ex-chief executive of Shandwick Consultants.

Although Matthews caused some embarrassment two months ago when he left

Shandwick, with three other board directors, to start the Hogarth

Partnership, his old firm is good enough to sing his praises via its web

site.

Cross-referencing Matthews’ name with Shandwick while surfing the Net,

our resident propeller head was amused to discover his face beaming down

from the top of the Shandwick site. The Hogarth founder, apparently, is

particularly experienced in handling complex and sensitive arrangements,

such as crisis work, reputation management and company relaunches.

Furthermore, among other tributes, it says Matthews has won an IPR Sword

of Excellence - and has overall responsibility for Shandwick

Consultants’ 100-plus clients.

Hurrah then, for Shandwick’s magnanimity. After all, a company that has

trumpeted its pounds 10 million investment in a global Internet system

and which has a dedicated new media offshoot, Shandwick Interactive,

couldn’t have forgotten to update its own corporate web site. Could it?
