French-owned investment bank Banque Paribas has hired Shandwick

Consultants to handle media relations following the departure of its

London-based head of corporate communications Lindsay Searle.

The agency, which has put a four-strong team on the account, was hired

by Paribas’ London-based global capital markets division last week.

The contract is likely to extend for just three or four months, while

the bank finds a replacement for Searle, who joined Paribas last year

(PR Week, 26 July, 1996) from fund manager Gartmore.

A spokesman for Paribas in Paris said Searle had left on 17 March to

’concentrate on personal commitments’. She did not have another job to

go to.

Although there are six people in Paribas’ London corporate

communications department, he explained that they concentrate on

roadshows. Shandwick had been hired to plug the gap in media relations.
