Satellite and cable TV channel European Business News is shaking up its

PR with its first UK agency, a new public relations manager and the

promise of a European agency appointment.

The financial and business channel has just signed up Propeller

Marketing Communications after a two-way pitch. The business, which will

initially be for six months, is thought to be worth around pounds 50,000

in fees.

Propeller has been the retained corporate PR agency for one of EBN’s two

owners - cable and satellite company Flextech - since last August (the

channel’s other stakeholder is US business publishing group Dow Jones

and Company).

Frances Whitehead, EBN marketing director, said the agency’s projects

would include promoting the channel’s new season of programmes to trade

and consumer audiences.

Whitehead said the channel intended to inject more resources into PR and

revealed that it was likely to recruit a German PR agency in the next

few months.

The agency activity coincides with the recruitment of Shirley Henry as

EBN’s new PR manager.

Henry, who joins EBN next month, has spent the last two years as

communications manager with Italian-based Whirlpool Europe.

She will replace Shayna Main, who is becoming a freelance after just

over a year with EBN.
