Whitehall that information officers are having to call on the volunteer

reserves.

Members of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force’s 12-strong public relations

squadron have organised a rota to provide extra support in the MoD press

office.

The 7644 (VR) Public Relations Squadron includes both journalists and PR

people. Veteran BBC regional radio presenter Keith Skues, media training

consultant Chris Loosemore, video production company owner Steve Dargan,

and Black Bear Productions producer Nick Radcliffe have all been

seconded to the MoD.

Flight lieutenant Andy Pemberton, a member of the squadron who has been

seconded to RAF Cottesmore as the RAF base’s community relations

officer, has been in Italy since March.

Pemberton, formerly a journalist, has been joined by flight lieutenant

and BBC Northern Ireland news projects manager Mike Cairns, who is now

in Southern Italy setting up facilities for visiting journalists.

George Cunningham, a squadron leader and spokesman for the group, says:

’The rest of us are on standby to accompany any groups of journalists

invited to go out and meet squadrons in Italy.’
