Hasbro invites three to pitch for Play-Doh



Toy company Hasbro is seeing pitches from three PR agencies for its

Playskool and Play-Doh brands. Lynne Franks, Burson-Marsteller and

Jackie Cooper, which already handles PR for Hasbro’s Sindy doll, will

pitch next week.



Edelman to take on NCR global work



NCR Corporation, one of three companies created from the demerger of

AT&T, has hired Edelman PR as its PR adviser worldwide. Edelman’s

corporate brief will roll out across Europe and Asia Pacific over the

next few weeks. Five other agencies bid for the contract which is worth

around dollars 1 million (pounds 654,000) a year.



Westminster and Citigate to boost Cigna



Sister agencies Westminster PR and Citigate Corporate have won a pounds

100,000 account to raise the profile of US insurer Cigna EME, the

energy, marine and engineering underwriting division of Cigna

International. The agencies have been briefed to enhance Cigna’s

identity in the City through a series of events and contacts with the

business and trade press.



Ratcliffe in driving seat for Green Flag



Motoring breakdown service Green Flag has appointed Hull Daily Mail

motoring editor John Ratcliffe as PR manager. Ratcliffe takes command of

PR midway through an aggressive marketing campaign aimed at exploiting

Green Flag’s sponsorship of the England football team during this

summer’s European Championships.



Award for PR Week journalist



PR Week reporter Rebecca Dowman has won an award of excellence in the

‘newcomer to editing’ category of this year’s British Association of

Communicators in Business Awards. Before joining PR Week in January,

Rebecca edited Mercury Communications’ employee magazine Out of the

Blue.



Mistral to promote sewage benefits



The Mistral Group has been appointed by the Water Services Association

to help promote the benefits of sewage sludge as a fertiliser and soil

conditioner. Mistral won the business, thought to be worth around pounds

50,000, with fees of about pounds 35,000, after a four-way pitch to the

WSA, which represents nine of the ten major English and Welsh water

companies.



Where to discover a hard commercial edge



The fourth annual ‘Hard Commercial Edge of PR’ event, sponsored by PR

Week, Marketing and Management Today and in association with the PRCA,

will take place at Church House, Westminster on Monday 8 July. There

will be two full conference programmes running side by side. One will

focus on marketing communications, planning and evaluation, chaired by

Countrywide chairman Peter Hehir; the other on corporate, financial and

public affairs issues, chaired by BBC corporate affairs director Colin

Browne. There will also be a programme of practical seminars and a

plenary session with keynote speakers.



Vernons gambles on Communique PR



Vernons Pools has appointed Communique Public Relations, following a

five-way pitch, to develop promotional campaigns for new game launches

and to generate publicity for big pools and spot the ball wins. The

Ladbroke-owned company suffered heavy losses last year following

competition from the National Lottery and scratch cards.
