Candle Corporation, one of the world’s top three privately owned

computer software companies, has upgraded its PR function across Europe

and Asia with the creation of three senior communications roles.

Scott McDermott has been appointed to the newly created position of

senior director of international communications. McDermott leaves his

18-month post as director of corporate public relations at the Candle

headquarters in Santa Monica and will now direct PR across Europe and

Asia. His previous communications experience includes seven years with

IBM in Europe and the US.

Two newly-appointed directors will report to McDermott. Nadia Righetti

joins from Ogilvy PR Worldwide, where she was a consultant on the IBM

account, to take up the newly created post of director of communications

Europe. Huni Yoshakawa joins Candle as its first director of

communications in the Asia/Pacific region from Digital where she was

manager of marketing communications.

McDermott will continue to report to Joan Seavey, vice-president of

communications, public relations and advertising in Candle’s Santa

Monica office. He will oversee a team of 14 consultants spread across

Europe and Asia.

Candle specialises in business-to-business software, with particular

strengths in providing software compatibility between company networks

following mergers and acquisitions. Over the past two years the company,

which employs 1,500 staff worldwide, has reported an annual turnover

increase from pounds 146 million to pounds 196 million.
