Diary: Williams proves word perfect with jargon

when John Williams, Fishburn Hedges managing director was called on for

script advice by the writers of Fierce Creatures.

Sadly, Williams was not asked to inject more dramatic tension - but to

impart impenetrable marketing jargon.

Williams was nominated as the PR world’s jargon guru by one-time FH

staffer Amanda Montgomerie, nee Masefield, who is now John Cleese’s

PA.

Montgomerie was asked by Fierce Creatures co-writer, Iain Johnstone, for

an authentic source for marketing jargon and she, quite naturally,

thought of Williams. The successful audition, Williams admits, was a

dubious honour. ’I suspect Amanda chose me because I have a background

in planning, and planning people are meant to use a lot of long words.

But it could also be,’ he adds with admirable candour ’because I talk a

lot.’
