The UK charity devoted to improving the lives of young people with cancer has hired a communications director, head of media relations and account manager.

Catherine Cullen joins as director of communications, heading up a six-strong team. She makes the move after eight years contracting for charities such as Comic Relief, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Refuge, The Prince's Trust and Make Poverty History.

Cullen said: ‘I'm looking forward to taking our communications to the next level - showcasing the amazing work we do in supporting young people with cancer and engaging with the UK public to expand our generation of supporters.'

In addition Michelle Saxby moves from mydeco.com to become head of media relations, while Sarah Henderson joins from PR agency Spink as media relations manager.

Every day in the UK, six teenagers are told they have cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer by providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals designed to give teenagers the best chance of a positive outcome.
