Lisa Spiro, UBS managing director with responsibility for corporate

communications across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is to leave

the investment bank after seven years, to set up her own public

relations consultancy.

Her new venture will specialise in communications, crisis management,

strategic advice and corporate responsibility issues.

It is unclear who will take over Spiro’s position at UBS, although she

said that executive director Alan Ogden is ’the most senior person in

terms of experience’.

Ogden left his job as deputy chairman of Hill and Knowlton (PR Week,

February 21) to become UBS executive director, corporate communications,

reporting to Spiro.

The other senior communicators at UBS are director of media relations

Simon Pincombe, European advertising and marketing director Brian Offen

and head of new media Kim Kennedy.

Daily Telegraph City diarist turned PR-man Damien McCrystal left UBS at

the beginning of the year when he was hired by Andrew Regan’s Lanica

Trust.

During her career Spiro has acquired a reputation for her crisis

management abilities. In her previous post at Salomon Brothers she

handled the adverse publicity surrounding accusations that the bank was

ruthlessly sacking staff.

She was then head-hunted to UBS where she had to deal with the negative

publicity surrounding the Blue Arrow trial in which UBS-owned broker

Phillips and Drew was embroiled.
